1.05 bloody mary

I still consider "Bloody Mary" to be one of, if not the creepiest and scariest, SPN's ever ("Provenance" running a close second). This might have been the first episode I saw, actually and I remember thinking this is very good! Very reminiscent of The Ring, obviously, but that scares the bejeesus out of me which is a good thing.

In the original pilot they refer to dealing with Bloody Mary so I'm glad they took it out so we could get this!

Very effective way of introducing Mary - flashes of her in the mirrors as the father passes by. CREEPY! Still, a bit a of a blatant rip-off of TR but whatev. It works.

Doesn't Dean know that his cute smile and charm equals EPIC FAIL on the bald ugly guy?

"I'm gonna hit him in his face. I swear." HA! The entire bribing scene is great. I love the faces Jensen makes:

Underdressed? It's the guy's funeral! Couldn't they have come back after everyone left? This irked me.

This face is a uh-huh, yup, totally:

The daughter reminds me of Ginnifer Goodwin.

The music even has a tinge of TR to it.

They should get business cards like Angel did! It would be so much easier. Instead of Angel wings (or butterfly), it could be guns...like a Winchester...see what I did there?

I love how Dean's checking her out as she's walking away. Oh, Dean-O.

This show and its lighting is always awesome and appropriate. I just wanted to point that out.

I would be super pissed if someone screamed like that in my ear on a cell phone and wasn't actually being murdered by a ghost-mirror-lady.

Maybe it isn't so much that this girl killed a boy but that Mary really doesn't like Fall Out Boy? It's a thought.

The mirror image not moving was all kinds of awesome. Completely unexpected.

She reminds me of Anna Farris...

"Why'd you let me fall asleep?"
"Because I'm an awesome brother."

"What'd you dream about?"
"Lollipops and candy canes."
Woobie! Sam sounds so broken. :(

Tongue! I have so many caps of them sticking out their tongues. For reals. There will be a picspam at some point because BOYS! Keep it in your mouths! My goodness.

How did Dean get into the NCIC or the FBI database? It's one thing to flash a fake badge...it's another to crack their database and I love the boys and all but I don't think they have the SKILLZ to pull that off.

I love how they intro'd Mary into Charlie's world:

How did she manage to get from school to the hotel without incident? Also, Indiana and Ohio are close but I don't think it's like a ten minute drive or anything (I suppose it depends where in both states you are but what are the chances of THAT??!)

Technically, though, if Charlie tells Sam and Dean her dark death secret, shouldn't that absolve her? Also, Mary is sort of stretching it here with this one. The other two ACTUALLY KILLED people - this was not her fault. I get it's a plot device to get Sam into the mix but it still bugs.

Here's what's nice about the rewatch. I forget everything like the minute after it happens so Sam has just answered my previous concern. And it's an acceptable explanation.

So maybe because she was summoned before Charlie spilled about her dead ex, it can't be voided out if you tell the truth? I'm like obsessed with this.

"You know what, that’s it. {He pulls the car over.} This is about Jessica, isn’t it? You think that’s your dirty little secret that you killed her somehow? Sam, this has got to stop, man. I mean, the nightmares and calling her name out in the middle of the night—it’s gonna kill you. Now listen to me—It wasn’t your fault. If you wanna blame something, then blame the thing that killed her. Or hell, why don’t you take a swing at me? I mean I’m the one that dragged you away from her in the first place."
"I don’t blame you."
"Well you shouldn’t blame yourself, because there’s nothing you could’ve done."
"I could’ve warned her."
"About what? You didn’t know what was gonna happen! And besides, all of this isn’t a secret, I mean I know all about it. It’s not gonna work with Mary anyway."
"No you don’t."
"I don’t what?"
"You don’t know all about it. I haven’t told you everything."
So...this was a great trend for Sam to have started. The not telling Dean everything thing that he likes to do so much.

I really enjoy the creative usage of mirrors/reflections throughout the whole episode:

If you break 70 prop mirrors, is that still bad luck?

"You never told her the truth—who you really were. But it’s more than that, isn’t it? Those nightmares you’ve been having of Jessica dying, screaming, burning—You had them for days before she died. Didn’t you!?! You were so desperate to ignore them, to believe they were just dreams. How could you ignore them like that? How could you leave her alone to die!?! You dreamt it would happen!!!"
It's a actually a nice set-up to 1.14 and the rest of Sam's story BUT no matter what Jess was burning. That's just a sad fact of his life.

The hand, Mary coming out of the mirror - it works because that is always going to be freaky scary to me BUT having said that, I wish it was just a little less beat me over the head with Samara, you know?

I do, however, like that she killed herself-ish. That was kind of cool.

"This has to be like...what? 600 years bad luck?"

"Hey Sam?"
"Now that this is all over, I want you to tell me what that secret is."
"Look…you’re my brother and I’d die for you, but there are some things I need to keep to myself."

OMG, the Rolling Stones song KILLS MY SOUL. It is awesome, perfect choice.

This is one of my favorite sequences ever. I just think it's so hauntingly beautiful.
